ESAB OK Autrod 12.22 3.2mm 30kg sub arc wire

£250.00 exc VAT

OK Autrod 12.22 is a copper-coated, unalloyed wire for Submerged Arc Welding. This wire is suitable to be combined with most ESAB sub arc flux, the most common being OK Flux 10.71.

  • NOTE: OK Autrod 12.32 has higher silicone content, and is a cleaner production wire for bigger, quicker welds (that still set quickly with weld control 10.62 rapid set flux). Settings can be turned up on amps, volts and and travel, speed due to more or less puddling, but weld control will more important on narrow diameter pipe, so 12.22 wire and 10.62 is needed subject to the job

12.22 has Si content (for wetting), and for 12.22 we recommend neutral fluxes such as OK Flux 10.71. This will be a wetter, more flowing weld (needed to take shape and drop nicely and fill angled prep), designed for higher deposition, quicker and bigger welds (great on flatter plate!)

  • 12.22 + 10.71 = wet and big welds (production welds for fast deposition. Used on flatter plate)
  • 12.22 + 10.62 controlled rapid set tight welds (this is the fastest setting weld, needed for narrow pipe)
  • 12.32 + 10.62 wet welds with fast setting flux  (fast setting, good production deposition, and very clean. Used on 355 and mill scale steel)

OK Flux 10.62 is a rapid set flux, and will decrease fluidity of the molten pool, which is great when used on pipe, where the weld will be upside down soon after weld deposit, duration circumferential rotation.

12.22 has increased Si content, and we recommend neutral fluxes such as OK Flux 10.62 to increase the fluidity of the molten pool.

This S2 wire is designed for 275 grade structural steels, ship building steels, pressure vessel steels, and fine grained steels, etc.

For S355 or DH36 marine grade steel, then a a stronger S3 wire and flux is needed, such as OK Autrod 12.32 and OK Flux 10.62. The S3 combination is adequate to pass a charpy weld test (based on proper procedural parameters) and has sufficient impact @ -60 degrees Celsius and yield strength @ >460 MPa (S355 is 355 MPa).

Product Description

OK Autrod 12.22

  • More ‘neutral’ C-Mn wire behaviour
  • Tighter, less “wetter” puddle feel with basic fluxes
  • Very common for high-toughness requirements with basic fluxes (like 10.62)
  • Often the default for critical thick-section work where you don’t want the pool to get lively

OK Autrod 12.32

  • Generally a bit more deoxidising / bead-wetting behaviour (often via Mn/Si balance)
  • Can give nicer toe wetting and be more forgiving on less-than-perfect surface condition
  • Can feel more fluid (not because it magically melts faster, but because it wets out more readily)
  • Important: wire choice doesn’t meaningfully increase deposition rate by itself — deposition rate is mainly driven by wire diameter + current + stickout
  • What 12.32 can do is make the bead look flatter / washier at the same settings, which sometimes lets people push travel speed or volts without toe issues (mostly on flat or easy geometry)
