Benefits of Air Cooled TIG Welding

Air cooled TIG welding systems provide one of the cleanest, most precise, and highest-quality welding processes available across fabrication, pipework, stainless steel manufacture, aluminium welding, motorsport, aerospace, food-grade fabrication, and precision engineering applications. Combining exceptional weld appearance with highly accurate heat control and portability, air cooled TIG welding remains one of the most versatile and respected welding processes within modern fabrication industries.

The UK’s Largest Fleet of Portable TIG Welding Systems

Spectrum operates the UK’s largest fleet of portable 110V, 240V, and 415V AC/DC high-frequency TIG welding systems, providing highly flexible welding solutions for workshop fabrication, site welding, shutdown projects, and specialist precision welding applications.

One of the major advantages of air cooled TIG welding equipment is its portability — many systems are compact and lightweight enough to be carried comfortably in one hand, making them ideal for mobile welding environments and difficult access fabrication work.

Exceptional Weld Cleanliness & Appearance

TIG welding is widely regarded as the cleanest and most aesthetically pleasing welding process available. The stable arc characteristics and precise filler control produce:

  • virtually no spatter
  • extremely low fume generation
  • highly controlled weld profiles
  • excellent fusion control
  • pristine weld appearance

This makes TIG welding ideal for industries and fabrication environments where weld appearance, cleanliness, and precision are critically important.

Perfect for Stainless Steel Fabrication

Air cooled TIG welding systems are extensively used for stainless steel fabrication due to the exceptional control they provide over weld heat input and weld pool behaviour. TIG welding produces extremely clean stainless welds with outstanding colouration, minimal oxidation, and highly refined weld appearance, making the process ideal for:

  • food-grade fabrication
  • pharmaceutical pipework
  • pressure systems
  • architectural stainless fabrication
  • hygienic process pipework

Ideal for Mild Steel, Stainless & Aluminium Welding

Modern AC/DC TIG welding systems provide exceptional versatility across a wide range of materials including:

  • mild steel
  • stainless steel
  • aluminium
  • copper alloys
  • titanium
  • exotic materials

Using only argon shielding gas, TIG welding allows operators to achieve highly precise welding performance across both thin materials and specialist fabrication applications.

Excellent Heat Control & Thin Material Welding

TIG welding provides extremely accurate control over weld heat input, making it ideal for thin section materials and delicate fabrication work where distortion control and precision are critical.

This level of control allows:

  • reduced burn-through risk
  • cleaner root fusion
  • improved edge control
  • lower distortion
  • superior cosmetic weld finish

across demanding fabrication environments.

High-Frequency AC/DC Welding Capability

Modern high-frequency AC/DC TIG welding systems provide excellent arc starting performance and allow seamless transition between:

  • DC TIG welding for steels and stainless materials
  • AC TIG welding for aluminium fabrication

This flexibility makes air cooled TIG systems highly adaptable across varied fabrication industries and specialist welding applications.

Simple, Reliable & Highly Versatile

Air cooled TIG welding systems combine exceptional weld quality with compact portability and simple setup, making them ideal for workshop fabrication, maintenance operations, shutdown projects, specialist site welding, and precision engineering environments.

Their combination of portability, weld cleanliness, and precision welding performance continues to make air cooled TIG welding one of the most respected and widely used welding processes in the industry.

HF DC Air-Cooled TIG Add-On Systems for Welder Generators

Spectrum operates the largest fleet in Europe of orange Viper 250 high-frequency DC TIG add-on units, designed specifically for converting diesel welder generators into highly capable long-distance TIG welding systems. With the welder generator operating in CC (Constant Current) mode, the Viper 250 introduces high-frequency TIG ignition and precision DC TIG welding capability whilst maintaining the portability and flexibility of engine-driven welding equipment.

One of the major advantages of the Viper 250 system is its advanced remote-style amperage control functionality, allowing welding current to be adjusted directly from the air-cooled TIG unit itself without requiring traditional remote control cables. The Viper effectively bypasses the amperage control on the welder generator, allowing operators to control welding output remotely at the point of welding whilst operating at extremely long distances from the diesel welder generator, using only copper welding cables and argon hose extensions. This means no need for extra long 110V / 240V / 415V extension leads with massive voltage drop, to get your TIG welder to where you need it.

This creates an exceptionally practical TIG welding solution for pipework, shutdowns, stainless steel fabrication, offshore projects, structural applications, and remote site welding environments where conventional TIG systems would be impractical due to cable limitations, site access, and power supply restrictions.
