Diesel Welder Generator Hire
Choose from a wide range diesel welder generator hire options. Spectrum has the expertise to help you find the right diesel generator and set it up to suit your exact needs.
Which diesel welder generator do I need to hire?
Hiring the correct generator involves considering several key factors:
- Are you MIG welding, stick welding, or ARCAIR gouging?
- If you're MIG welding what wire type are you wanting to weld
- 1.0mm solid or 1.2mm flux-cored for all-positional
- What length cable reach do you need?
- Welder generator to the point of weld ie. 20m, 35m, 100m+.
- Are you wanting to power 9 1/2" 110V grinders?
- Do you need the generator on skids (euro pallet) or on a road tow?
- Have you got a forklift on site to unload the generator off a van?

Benefits of Diesel Welder Generators
Powerful Welding Performance Across Multiple Applications
Diesel welder generators are setup for MMA and MIG welding, from 200 amps through to 500 amps, delivering outstanding welding performance across a wide range of industrial and site applications. From general fabrication and maintenance work through to heavy structural steel, pipe welding, shutdown projects, and air arc gouging, these machines provide the power and reliability required for the most demanding environments.
Reliable On-Site Power Generation
One of the major benefits of diesel welder generators is their ability to provide dependable auxiliary power generation alongside welding performance. With integrated 110V 240V, and 415V outputs, they can power grinders, magnetic drills, lighting, compressors, pumps, and general site tools, making them an ideal all-in-one plant solution for remote locations and construction sites.
Large Fuel Tank Capacity for Extended Run Time
Built for long shifts and continuous use, many diesel welder generators are equipped with a large 45-litre fuel tank, allowing extended run times without frequent refuelling. This is a major advantage on site, particularly during shutdowns, emergency works, and projects where downtime must be kept to an absolute minimum.
Ideal for Heavy-Duty Welding and Air Arc Gouging
Higher-output machines in the 400A to 500A range are perfectly suited for demanding applications such as heavy fabrication, thick section welding, and air arc gouging. Their high duty cycle and stable arc characteristics ensure reliable performance even under prolonged industrial use.
Complete Mobile MIG Welding Package
When supplied as a diesel welder generator MIG package, these machines provide a fully self-contained mobile welding solution for remote fabrication and site work. These will come with their own 'voltage-sensing' wire feeder (no external MIG welder needs to be plugged into the diesel generator). This makes them ideal for structural steel erection, plant maintenance, bridge work, pipework, and general engineering projects where mains power is unavailable.
Voltage-Sensing Wire Feeder – No Control Cable Required
A key advantage of the MIG package is the use of a voltage-sensing wire feeder, which removes the need for a separate controller cable between the machine and the feeder. We can configure the feeder for any wire needed, such as knurled serrated drive rollers for soft 1.2mm flux-cored wire. The unit senses open-circuit voltage (OCV) directly through the welding leads, simplifying setup, reducing cable clutter, and making the system much more practical for site use.
Extended Cable Reach – Up to 100 Metres
When paired with a 500 amp diesel welder generator, the MIG package can weld with a 100 metre earth and 100mtr feeder cable reach from generator to torch, allowing exceptional flexibility and reach on larger sites and structural projects. This enables the machine to remain in a safe, accessible position while the welder works at distance. When extending copper welding cables, we can also extend the argon hoses as well for required reach.
Higher Amperage for Longer Cable Runs
As cable lengths increase, voltage and amperage drop becomes more significant. This is why longer cable runs require a higher amperage machine. The 500 amp model provides the reserve power needed to maintain excellent arc stability and wire feed performance, ensuring high weld quality even over extended distances.
All-Positional FCAW-G Site Welding Capability
Diesel welder generator MIG package are ideally suited to FCAW-G gas-shielded all-positional welding wire, making them one of the most versatile site welding solutions available. FCAW-G 1.2mm is the ultimate soft-arc mild steel wire for all thin and thick plate (180-300amps), allowing operators to weld in any position — flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead — with excellent weld pool control and high deposition rates.
Perfect for Site Steelwork and Structural Erection
For beams, columns, gantries, pipe, and structural steel erection, this 1.2mm FCAW-G wire setup makes diesel welder generators exceptionally valuable for site fabrication and maintenance work, where access and orientation can be challenging.
Excellent Productivity and Reduced Labour Time
With higher deposition rates than many conventional welding processes, diesel welder generators combined with MIG or FCAW-G packages significantly improve productivity. Faster travel speeds, less downtime, and reduced repositioning all contribute to lower labour costs and improved efficiency on site.
Built for Harsh Industrial Environments
Designed for heavy industrial use, diesel welder generators are built to perform in harsh site conditions, including construction, utilities, rail, infrastructure, agricultural engineering, and plant shutdowns. Their rugged construction and reliable engines make them a trusted solution for professional contractors.
This makes diesel welder generators the ultimate all-in-one site welding and power generation solution, combining welding performance, auxiliary power, mobility, long run time, and exceptional flexibility.
