MB36 Pro Air Cooled MIG Welding Torch

Price range: £90.00 through £130.00 exc VAT

The Pro MB36 has been designed to offer comfortable grip and looks decent. The soft rubber areas in the handle assure comfortable, non-slip handling.

This is the best all-rounder MIG torch for welding 1.0mm and 1.2mm solid wire and 1.2mm flux-cored wire up to 240amps for medium durations throughout the day (with plenty of cool down time), or @ 300amps for very short bursts (and lots of cool down time).

All models offer excellent performance and are compatible with standard Euro style consumables.

However please note, when used with 400amp air cooled MIG welders  (which are usually 300amps @ 100%), the MB36 air cooled torch is only 200amps @ 100%. When welding at 300+ high amperages with an air cooled MIG torch (300amps @ 40%) and an Argon/CO2 mix for long durations (anything over 2 minutes non-stop), common issues can occur.

This includes shielding gas problems stemming from the MB36 air cooled torch’s inability to handle the intense heat for extended periods, with the neck expanding, internal parts failing, gas pipes soften and kink, trigger stops working, leading to poor gas coverage. An MB36 torch can only do 200amps @ 100%, which means 10 minutes of welding @ 200amps then 10 minutes cool down. Not ideal for flat out thick plate high amps heavy production.

This excessive heat then increases weld contamination, porosity, spatter, gas flow feed issues (due to pipes in the torch getting to hot and changing shape / melting), and potentially an overheated torch which then fully melts. To solve this would be a water cooled MIG welding rental machine, in stock available here.

Product Description

MB36 AIR COOLED TORCH DUTY RATING:

  • 100amps @ 200% duty = 20 minutes continuous / 10 minutes cool down
  • 200amps @ 100% duty = 10 minutes continuous / 10 minutes cool down
  • 300amps @ 40% duty = 4 minutes continuous / 6 minutes cool down
  • 360amps @ 10% duty = 1 minute maximum / 20 minutes cool down

ISSUES WITH AIR COOLED TORCHES WHEN OVERHEATING:

  • Weld Porosity: The most common symptom of inadequate shielding (heat can distort the gas coverage). Pockets of air trapped in the weld result in small holes in the weld bead (is shielding gas has been affected by torch over heating), significantly weakening its structural integrity
  • Excessive Spatter: A less stable arc, often caused by insufficient gas flow or turbulence, leads to an increase in metal droplets flying from the weld pool
  • Weld Contamination/Oxidation: Brown or black staining around the weld area, indicating the molten metal reacted with the atmosphere (oxygen and nitrogen)
  • Poor Weld Shape/Bead Appearance: Inconsistent welds, undercutting, or surface irregularities due to a compromised weld pool and arc stability
  • Torch Overheating: High amps generate significant heat and exceeding this duty cycle will cause the torch body, liner, and consumables to overheat, which in turn affects gas flow and wire feeding, exacerbating the problem
