The Fabricator 401 is a heavy duty 400amp air cooled inverter controlled power source, designed for 250amp all-day mild steel MAG welding 1.0mm and 1.2mm OK Aristorod 12.50 copper-free bare solid wire.

Built to withstand harsh environments, it’s soon become the No.1  solution for most fabrication shops in the UK.

However please note, although the power source is 310amps @ 100%, the air cooled torch is not. When welding at 300+ high amperages with an air cooled MIG torch (300amps @ 40%) and an Argon/CO2 mix for long durations (anything over 2 minutes non-stop), common issues can occur.

This includes shielding gas problems stemming from the MB36 air cooled torch’s inability to handle the intense heat for extended periods, with the neck expanding, internal parts failing, gas pipes soften and kink, trigger stops working, leading to poor gas coverage. An MB36 torch can only do 200amps @ 100%, which means 10 minutes of welding @ 200amps then 10 minutes cool down. Not ideal for flat out thick plate high amps heavy production.

This excessive heat then increases weld contamination, porosity, spatter, gas flow feed issues (due to pipes in the torch getting to hot and changing shape / melting), and potentially an overheated torch which then fully melts.
