Motorised fine tune slides are designed to attach the submerged arc head assembly, for positioning the welding tip for the weld run.
Powered slides are preferred to manual slides when working on bigger column and boom sub arc welders, as the operator can have reduced access to the welding head. Powered slides means the operator doesn’t have to lean over the weld prep as much and can make adjustment from a safe distance, which can be problematic when on Youngman boards high up. Motorised slides also allow the operator to move the tip during the weld run in the event the longitudinal / circumferential weld starts to drift out of line, sometimes due to a vessel corkscrewing on the welding rotators.
The up/down/left/right slide movement allows for gentle wire touch down, perfect setup with precision accuracy, ease, and the exact adjustment needed when doing multi runs and capping.
The XY linear slides also means the bulky column and boom travel motions doesn’t have to be moved when aligning the head into the weld prep.
